[긴급] 네팔 이용호 선교사(미국 시민권자) 억류 사태

할렐루야! 주님의 은총 가운데 평안하시기를 빕니다. 뉴욕서노회 증경노회장 김상근 목사입니다.

다름이 아니오라, 현재 우리 교단 파송 선교사이자 네팔노회 노회장이신 이용호 선교사님의 위급한 소식을 전하고 기도를 요청하고자 합니다.

이용호 선교사님(미국 시민권자)께서 지난 1월 31일, '기독교를 전파했다'는 죄목으로 체포되어 현재 네팔 카트만두 유치장에 구금되어 계십니다.

상황이 매우 위중합니다. 이 선교사님은 현재 간암 4기 투병 중으로, 큰 수술을 마치고 지속적인 항암 치료(Chemotherapy)를 받아야 하는 환자입니다. 유치장의 열악한 환경 속에서 제대로 된 치료는커녕 식사와 식수조차 공급받지 못해 생명이 위태로운 지경입니다.

[요청 사항] 선교사님의 조속한 석방과 치료를 위해서는 미국 대사관의 개입이 절실합니다. 교단 산하 모든 교회와 목사님들께서는 잠시 시간을 내어 주 네팔 미국 대사관에 항의 및 탄원 이메일을 보내주십시오. 우리의 목소리가 모여야 미 국무부가 움직입니다.

[주 네팔 미국 대리대사에게 보낸 탄원서 작성 예시]

Subject: URGENT: American citizen under custody in Kathmandu, Nepal

Dear Acting Ambassador Scott Urbom,

I am writing to urgently submit a plea on behalf of Pastor Yong Ho Lee.

Pastor Lee is an American citizen who has been in police custody in Kathmandu since January 31, 2026.

Recently, I received an email from Pastor Lee stating that he was arrested on charges of disseminating Christianity in Nepal. He is currently teaching at Nepal International College as a professor.

In his email, he informed me that he is incarcerated indefinitely. He believes this is illegal religious persecution by the Nepalese government.

To make matters worse, he needs urgent medical treatment. In 2025, he underwent surgery for Stage 4 colon, liver, and lymph cancer. He is currently undergoing postoperative chemotherapy.

He stated that he has been suffering from continuous diarrhea for two days without access to food or water. As a cancer patient, he definitely needs urgent medical treatment. I believe this is a life-threatening situation. It is inhumane for Nepalese law enforcement to keep a cancer patient in jail under these conditions.

I thank you in advance for your immediate assistance in securing the release of Pastor Lee from custody.
